Are you moving soon, but don’t know how to take your kids with you? Moving is a difficult process for anyone, but it can be especially hard if you have young children.

Thankfully, there are some things you can do to make the process a little bit easier. Here are 10 tips for last-minute moving with kids. Let’s get started!

11 Tips for Last Minute Moving with Kids

Tip #1: Get Them Excited

The first step is to get your kids excited about the move. Talk to them about all of the new things they’ll be able to do in their new home, like making new friends and exploring different neighborhoods.

If possible, take them on a tour of your new home and let them pick out their own bedroom. By doing this, you’ll help them feel more comfortable about the move and less anxious about leaving their old home behind.

Tip #2: Start Packing Early

Don’t wait until the last minute to start packing. This will only make the process more stressful. Start packing as soon as you can and involve your kids in the process.

Let them pack their own toys and clothes. This will help them feel more involved in the move, and it will make the transition easier for them.

Tip #3: Pack Their Favorite Things

When it comes to packing their belongings, be sure to pack their favorite things first. This will help them feel more comfortable in their new surroundings. Consider packing a special toy or blanket that they can take with them on a moving day.

Tip #4: Create a Moving Day Schedule

Moving day can be hectic, so it’s important to create a schedule and stick to it. This will help your kids know what to expect and when.

Write out a list of tasks that need to be done on moving day and assign each family member a job. Make sure to include plenty of breaks for snacks and playtime.

Tip #5: Hire Help If Possible

If you can afford it, hiring professional movers can be a lifesaver on moving days. They can handle all of the heavy liftings and make the process go much smoother.

Just be sure to let them know in advance if you have any special requests, such as packing delicate items.

Tip #6: Keep Them Occupied

It’s important to keep your kids occupied on moving day so they don’t get bored or restless. If you’re hiring professional last minute movers, see if they offer any child-care services. Usually, these services include things such as movies, games, and crafts. Otherwise, you may need to enlist the help of a friend or family member.

Tip #7: Unpack Their Things First

Once you arrive at your new home, unpack your kids’ things first. This will help them feel more settled in and give them something to do while you finish unpacking the rest of the house.

Be sure to put their favorite things in a special place where they can easily find them.

Tip #8: Set Up Their Bedroom

One of the most important rooms to set up is your kids’ bedroom. This will be their own personal space where they can feel safe and comfortable.

If possible, have everything ready before moving day so all you have to do is put their bedding on the bed and hang up some pictures.

Tip #9: Stock Up on Snacks

Moving day is sure to be a long one, so make sure you have plenty of snacks on hand. This will help keep your kids’ energy up and prevent them from getting cranky. Pack some easy-to-eat items like granola bars, fruit, and crackers.

Tip #10: Take Breaks

Don’t try to do everything in one day. It’s important to take breaks throughout the day, both for you and your kids.

This will help everyone stay calm and avoid getting too overwhelmed. If possible, plan to take a break in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

Tip #11: Celebrate When It’s Over

Once everything is unpacked and you’re all settled into your new home, celebrate! Take your kids out for ice cream or have a special dinner to mark the occasion. This will help them feel positive about the move and get excited for all the new adventures ahead.

Last-minute moves are never easy but following these tips can help make the process a little bit easier.

With some careful planning and a positive attitude, you and your kids can make a successful move. Best of luck!
