Top 5 Spaces for Entertaining

Here are top five spaces in your home that you can transform into entertainment havens and some creative ideas that can help you get them ready for your guests.

  1. The Living Room

Your living room is a versatile space that can be used for hosting different types of events. Whether it’s a family gathering for the holidays, a birthday party or business-related event, with some inspiring decorations, you can easily get your living room ready for your party.

The first step is considering the layout of your living room, especially if it’s small. Your furniture should be arranged in a way that will enable your guests to mingle. If needed, you should rearrange your furniture to create a more open flow. For example, you can move furniture against the wall and take some pieces out.

Afterwards, you should set up a foods-and-drinks station. If you’re having a lot of guests, you can bring your dining table to your living room and create a buffet with small bites and appetizers. When it comes to home bar designs, you can get a bar cart or transform an antique cupboard into a bar.

Finally, you can move on to decorating your living room for your party. If you’ve decided to go with a specific theme, make sure to stick to decorations that fit into it. Lighting will help you create an intimate ambiance, so make sure to add candles or several lamps. You can always install dimmer lights that will enable you to adjust your lighting depending on the party type.

  1. The Dining Room

While your living room offers plenty of solutions for different types of party, your dining room is more suitable for formal celebrations, such as dinner parties, intimate dinners and holiday feasts. The room layout is also an important aspect to consider, but you won’t have to change it if you’re planning to have dinner here and then move to some other room. Nonetheless, you should still make sure that everyone feels comfortable.

A versatile dining table is a practical solution because it can easily be adjusted depending on how many guests you’re having. Make sure to decorate it with lovely centrepieces, candles and flowers to elevate your dining room décor. Once again, lighting is key, so make it appropriate for the event.

When it comes to foods and drinks, your options will vary depending on the type of your party. If you’re hosting a holiday feast, you can set up a traditional table. However, if you want to throw a stylish dinner party, you can transform your dining table into a buffet in the middle of the room so that all of your guests can reach it. Afterwards, they can settle in the main entertainment space, where they can sit and enjoy the food.

  1. The Kitchen

As the heart of the modern home, the kitchen has become another popular space for entertainment. However, it may be appropriate for smaller parties unless you have an open floor plan that opens to the living room. If you have a kitchen island, this can be your main entertainment area. You can use it to serve food and drinks, gather around it with your friends and even use it as a buffet. It can also be transformed into a bar – just add bar stools and start mixing cocktails.

Although the open-floor design might be the best option for entertainment since it combines the kitchen, living room and the dining room, you can still create a great flow even if you don’t have it. Just make sure to remove clutter and create an open space in your kitchen. You can even use your free counter space as a drink station if you don’t have enough room to introduce additional bars.

What makes your kitchen a great space for entertaining your guests is the fact that you can cook and spend time with them.

  1. The Backyard

Outdoor parties are always fun, and you won’t have to worry about stains and spills (or at least not as much). There are different areas in your backyard that you can use for entertainment and a pool is definitely one of them. This is a great option for a casual party or a birthday celebration that everyone will love!

When setting up the scene for the event, make sure to install beautiful pool lights that will create the right ambiance and enable you to continue your party long after the sun has set. You should set up a station with towels for your guests, add some comfy lounge chairs and pillows and create a bar using a cart or small tables.

You can also add tiki torches along the pool to illuminate your backyard, but make sure that they are safely placed.

A separate lounge area can also be a great place for greeting your guests. Whether it’s a relaxed ambiance with soft furniture or an outdoor dining area, you should decorate it to suit the event theme.

  1. The Terrace

A spacious terrace is also a versatile entertainment area that can enable you and your guests to easily move around. If it’s enclosed, you can even use it for different events during winter. In addition, if you have a roof terrace, it will provide you with a mesmerising view.

Once again, make sure to consider the layout and move furniture so that you have plenty of space. If you’re planning to throw a party during the day, you should set up a shade umbrella or place chic curtains. An outdoor grill is a great option for a casual party, especially when paired up with a mini fridge that will keep your drinks refreshing.

However, if you’re throwing a cocktail party in the evening, you should set up a bar with a buffet unless you’re planning to invite your guests inside for dinner. Finally, don’t forget lighting because it will help you create a stunning ambiance.

Depending on the type of your event, you can use different areas in your home for entertainment. The most important thing is to create an unobstructed flow and adjust the décor to the event theme.
