Preventing Freezing Pipes

The first thing that you need to do is lag the pipes. This is where you insulate them before winter comes and the temperature is freezing.

Then, when it is winter, your heating system can be utilized to ensure your pipes are warm 24/7. This is great since your heating system will not only be able to keep you warm but also your pipes.

Even if you’re not home, you should still have your heating on for some time. This will ensure that your pipes are still being heated and it will also make your home warm for whenever you return.

The cost of gas is likely something that you’ll worry about, so always check out the cost of fixing and even getting frozen pipes replaced. Once you know the cost, this will help you to make your decision.

Maintaining Your Radiators

It is very important that you not only maintain your boiler but also your entire heating system.

If you find that your radiator is cold near the top and warm on the bottom portion, this signifies that it has air trapped. If this occurs, then this means that it requires a radiator bleeding.

Once the radiator’s valve isn’t overly stiff, it is a simple process to get rid of the trapped air. All you need to do is turn the valve until you hear a hissing sound. Once the hissing sound stops, you can turn it back off. If you have carpet, make sure and remove or protect it since radiator bleeding will likely cause water leakage.

Additionally, you should remember that the greater the distance between the radiator and boiler, the cooler the radiator will be. It is important to balance the radiator to ensure that the heat is well spread among the pipes and in your home. This is not as simple as radiator bleeding and you’ll definitely need a professional to do it.
