Determine the Problem

There are many reasons why you might not be able to get water in your home. It’s important that you narrow down the possibilities.

If you’ve tried and failed to get water out of one faucet, you may want to try other outlets in your homes, such as other faucets or the shower. If it turns out that only one faucet isn’t working, you can mark it off as an issue with that faucet as opposed to your entire water system.

Similarly, you should test different water temperatures. There may be a chance you can get cold water to run but not hot water, and vice versa.

Last but not least, check your water main and ensure that it is open. It’s rare, but sometimes someone might forget that they’ve switched the faucet off. The solution, in this case, is as simple as opening the valve and letting water flow back in.

If you’ve checked all these areas and still can’t get water to run, you can reason that the issue is likely bigger and more serious than you might’ve hoped.

Fixing the Issue

What can you do if the water isn’t running in your home? The best thing to do is to call a plumber or another professional to come and evaluate the issue. Plumbing can be quite complicated and if the problem is serious, it’s best to not try a DIY solution.

However, if you do feel the need to tackle things on your own, you could attempt to check and service your water pipes. Steel pipes near the mainline fall under a lot of pressure. A check might reveal cracks or punctures where water is escaping.

If you find a rupture, it’s likely you’ll need to replace a portion of your piping.

If there are no external signs of a problem, the cause might be located within the pipe. Sometimes sediments can build up and prevent water from properly flowing through.

This can be difficult to determine on your own without complicated video equipment. Hydro jetting your pipes is one way to help clear sediment and allow water to flow properly once again.

Why Is There No Water in the House?

It can be terribly frustrating to realize that there is no water in the house when attempting to make it through your daily routine. The above information can help you determine the next steps to take if you find yourself in this position.
