After you’ve bought a fish tank you will need to find a place to put it.

Choosing the right spot is important not only for aesthetic purposes but for the wellness of the fish inside the tank.

In this article, we’re going to look at what you need to consider when choosing a location for your new tank, and some examples of good places to put one!

What Makes a Good Location?

Absolute Best Spots to Setup a Fish Tank

So, what exactly makes a good location for a fish tank? Well, there’s a couple of things that go into a good spot, here’s what they are:

  • Accessibility
  • Sunlight
  • Electrical Outlets
  • Noise
  • Visibility

Accessibility

One HUGE factor to consider is how accessible your tank is. We’ve all seen those photos of aquariums packed into shelves and walls online.

Although they look simple and beautiful, when it comes to cleaning the tank, you’ll soon realize your mistake.

When it comes to doing tank maintenance, having everything in the open is best. This allows you to do your tank chores as easily as possible.

Sunlight

Sunlight

The sun is the mother of all life, but exposing your tank to excessive sunlight can be a bad thing.

Be cautious of how much light your tank gets a day. The reason is that the combination of water and excess sunlight causes algae blooms.

Algae blooms are the main cause of a cloudy fish tank. And trust us when we say NO ONE wants a cloudy tank.

So be cautious of how close your tank is to a window or any other place where sunlight enters the home.

A good rule of thumb is to expose your tank to no more than 8-10 hours of sunlight a day to keep crystal clear water.

Electrical Outlets

Electrical Outlets

One variable to think about when choosing a location for your fish tank is how close it is to an electrical outlet.

Your tank has many pieces of equipment from the filter, heater, and lighting system. All of these require a source of power. They’ll all need to be powered by an outlet.

Generally, pick a place about 2-3 feet near an outlet. You can use an extension cable to fuel your tank with power, but be careful that water doesn’t splash on it.

Noise

Noise

To keep happy, healthy fish, you’ll want to make sure they are calm and “chill”. Noisy environments do the exact opposite of this.

An environment with a bunch of noise is a horrible choice for a fish tank. So be sure to place your tank far away from TVs, speakers, doors, and any other noise-producing device.

The reason for this is because noise stresses out fish, which can lead them to go into shock, thus resulting in early deaths. Generally, the best spot for a tank is somewhere that is quiet and mellow.

Visibility

Let’s face it, setting up a fish tank is a hard task. With that being said, pick a spot to show it off! Home aquariums are a huge crowd pleaser and will most definitely draw attention. So be sure to choose a room that will make it stand out!

It’s also important to make a fish tank visible to reveal any cracks or leaks.

Plus, you’ll be able to see your fish more which will help you identify weird or abnormal behaviors.

Examples Of Great Locations for Fish Tanks!

Now that we’ve seen all the different things to consider when choosing a location for your tank, let’s see some examples!

Here are 3 of the best places to put your fish tank.

Your Bedroom

Your Bedroom

One of the best spots to put a fish tank is in your bedroom. You’ll be spending a great bit of time there, so why not put your fish tank there? You’ll be able to visibly observe your fish and it’ll be accessible too!

Plus, who doesn’t love waking up to the sight of a beautiful fish tank with cute fish swimming around?

So, if you are looking to decorate your bedroom, consider adding an aquarium.

Your Living Room

Your Living Room

Another great spot to put a fish tank is in your living room!

Living rooms are generally the most popular place in the house so your tank will be able to be shown to everyone! Living rooms are also a great candidate because they are accessible and have plenty of electrical outlets.

The only downside is that living rooms can become a bit noisy at times. So be cautious of that.

Otherwise, decorating your living room with a fish tank is an amazing idea you should consider!

Your Office

Your Office

Finally, the third and final spot to place an aquarium is in your office. If your home has an office putting an aquarium in there is a great idea! Offices are usually a quiet place to get some work done, so you won’t have to worry about stressing out your fish with noise.

Generally, offices have enough electrical sockets to power a tank’s equipment too!

Another benefit to offices is that they’re accessible. So, if you’re looking to decorate your office, consider adding a fish tank.

Summary

When picking a spot to put a fish tank, remember to keep it out of direct sunlight, easily accessible and visible, near electrical outlets, and in a quiet spot.

Wherever you decide to put it, make it ACCESSIBLE!
