Are there plumbing problems in your home?

These false explanations for plumbing problems often cause panic and confusion in the home. More often than not, plumbers can clear up plumbing problems with a quick call to a homeowner.

Read on for some top plumbing myths that you should know about.

Debunking the Most Common Plumbing Myths That Exist Today

Flushable Wipes Are Flushable

Although the name implies that they are safe to flush, they should never be put down toilets, as they can cause severe problems and blockages.

Flushable wipe labels are misleading. They can travel further down the pipe than toilet paper and collect on household pipes and sewage systems. As such, they will require professional and timely support from a professional plumber expert to unblock the pipes.

Leaky Faucets Cost Little to Repair

As a smart homeowner, repairing a leaky faucet is much more complicated than simply replacing a washer or replacing a cartridge. Additionally, minor water damage caused by a leaking faucet can cause more significant damage if it is not properly repaired.

Due to the complexity of the plumbing myths, it is highly suggested that you hire a professional licensed plumber to repair any leaking faucets, as they can quickly assess the situation and provide a reliable and confident solution.

Licensed Plumbers are experienced and have the proper certifications to ensure you will receive a quality job that lasts.

Boiling Water Will Clear a Clogged Drain

In reality, this is not true. Boiling water can make clogged drains even worse, as the hot water can cause the clog to expand, causing even more blockage! Boiling water can damage your pipes and make the clog worse.

However, if you must use boiling water, it should be used in combination with one of these other methods, not as a stand-alone solution. Additionally, it is important to never pour boiling water directly into a standing bowl of water.

More Chemicals is a Surefire Way to Unclog Pipes

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Chemicals may be effective for some minor blockages, but they often don’t work for more serious blockages. In addition, overuse of chemicals can cause further corrosion and damage within the pipes.

The best way to tackle a clog is to first use a plunger to push the blockage down the drain. If that doesn’t work, using an auger to physically break up the blockage is usually more successful than using harsh chemicals.

A Malfunctioning Water Heater Equates to a Total Replacement

This is not always the case. Many malfunctions can be quickly rectified if you will find a plumber near me. In some cases, the problem can be as simple as replacing an inexpensive part, such as a broken pressure relief valve.

Other issues, such as poor insulation and mineral build-up, can be resolved with a water heater flush or a power washing of the tank. In most cases, the water heater can be salvaged and will continue to function as expected.

Learn the Common Plumbing Myths

Plumbing myths can confuse both home and business owners. But by learning more about what’s true and what’s false, you can save yourself time and money.

Be sure to arm yourself with the facts instead of opinions and be guided by qualified plumbers and industry experts. Call a professional plumber today to further learn the truth about plumbing.
