As an environmentalist, living an eco-friendly lifestyle is the first, most important step to giving back to the earth. Your quest of making the earth green again begins with you – how much carbon do you emit in your daily activities.

From using reusable bottles, and saving water, to contacting a reputable Solar Installation Company to help you save energy with solar technology products.

Contrary to popular opinion, having an eco-friendly home isn’t the most expensive lifestyle choice. It is, however, the most economical, simplest, and safest option.

To get your home on the greener part of life, here are some eco-friendly home tips you should know and adopt.

1.  Save Energy

Reducing your energy usage is the quickest way to lower carbon emissions in your home and save money. Purchase energy-efficient versions of appliances only. If you want to live more sustainably, replace your refrigerators, ovens, washing machines, and other appliances with ones with the Energy Star label on them.

Appliances with the Energy Star label may seem pricey at first, but they help you reduce costs in the long run.

You can also switch all your light bulbs to LED bulbs, they emit less heat. So, your air conditioner doesn’t have to do as much work as it would with the regular light bulbs. However, you need to turn them off when not in use (same with your other appliances).

2.  Limit Your Water Usage

Reduce your water consumption in your bathrooms and kitchens. When taking a shower, do it as quickly as possible. Avoid spending long minutes in the shower to save water. Better still, keep the showers off while soaping, only turns it on when you need to rinse.

In addition to taking shorter showers, install low-flow showerheads. They help regulate water pressure and the amount you use when taking a shower. This way, you can save water without having to compromise your cleanliness.

If you want to save more water, avoid using too much detergent when doing your laundry. It will require you to use more water to rinse off. Invest in a dishwasher if you can, because it saves a lot of water.

3.  Use Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

Stick to using more natural, non-chemical cleaning products in your home. Using the usual chemical products is poisonous to the environment.

Organic cleaning products, however, are less toxic to the environment and do the job just as well. While they are relatively more expensive than chemical products, they are more environmental-friendly, as they reduce the release of chemicals that pollute the air and water bodies.

4.  Re-Use & Recycle

Have at least one recycle bin in common areas in your home. It will help you be more intentional about recycling plastic, glass bottles, and other recyclable products.

You also need to stop buying bottled water. Instead, reuse the bottles you have at home or buy a water bottle you can take everywhere with you to stay hydrated.

Still, on a reusing lifestyle, avoid using plastic or paper bags at the grocery store. Request for the reusable canvas bag alternative instead. It is sturdier and eco-friendly.

5.  Plant a Veggie Garden

Embrace the beauty of gardening by planting your food. Your vegetable garden can help purify the air around your home and help increase your interest in sustainability. With organic gardening practices, you can produce healthy vegetables for your consumption.

You also reduce the cost and carbon emission associated with transporting this farm produce when you grow them yourself.

Conclusion

Leading a sustainable lifestyle starts from your home. Keep your home eco-friendly to stay healthy and keep the planet safe and green. With time, you’ll be able to influence your family, friends, and neighbors to make environment-friendly choices too.
