Lighting

Lighting can have a big impact on your backyard. You can upplight landscaping, create different moods, and provide much-needed safety.

A landscape lighting transformer can spread voltage to different lights throughout your yard. You can light several fixtures and even set timers to turn on lights at different times.

Adding lights to patios, fences, stairs, and pools will help keep your family safe. You will also enjoy the ambiance lighting provides.

Build a Deck or Patio

A deck or a patio is the heart of every backyard. Patios or decks make great places to enjoy a meal, entertain family, or relax. Think of your deck as a second family room.

If you have a pool, a deck addition is a great place to soak up the sun or perfect your cannonball.

Using pavers or stones, you can create a patio space almost anywhere in your yard. Patios and decks also give you the most bang for your buck when it comes to resale.

Create a Trellis

A trellis is a beautiful place to sit under the sun. Depending on the design, a trellis can be an architectural detail or somewhere to get some shade.

A trellis or pergola can go over a patio, on a deck, off of a garage, or freestanding anywhere in your backyard design.

Make Room For Play in Your Backyard Designs

If you have kids, you know how important outdoor space is. When you design your backyard incorporate some space for the little ones in your life. Whether it’s an area for free play or adding a play structure, kid space is important.

Kids will also love caring for the yard. Make it a family affair and give even the littlest toddlers a plant to water. According to Harvard Medical School, playing outside is a vital need for children.

Flowers and Green Space

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, adding plants can enhance your backyard. Succulents are great options for people who don’t have a ton of time to invest in a full garden.

Trees, potted plants, and flowers are great for the environment and beautiful to look at and enjoy. Raised vegetable gardens make great additions that also lower your grocery bill.

Design an Outdoor Entertainment Area

The grill is often the highlight of a backyard. If you enjoy outdoor cooking, consider investing in an outdoor kitchen space. Outdoor kitchens can include a brick oven, a refrigerator, an ice machine, and a nice serving area.

Every entertaining area also needs space for a large table. Use seating to create different zones. You can have comfortable seating for lounging, an eating area, and chairs made for soaking up the sun.

Beautiful Backyards Have Spaces for Everyone

The most beautiful backyards have a place for everyone to enjoy. Whether it’s a play area for kids or an outdoor kitchen for entertaining, give the whole family a place of their own.

Your backyard can add a ton of living space to your home. When your dream backyard comes to life, you’ll have a beautiful space to relax with family and friends.
