6 Types of Family Room Interior Designs That Everybody’s Talking About

Because family rooms are so versatile, the interior designs you choose to use in yours should depend on what you use your family room for the most.

Some other things to consider are the rest of your home and your style as well. You want there to be a consistent flow throughout your home, which includes the family room’s design.

You also want to ensure that your family room feels like your own personal space, which means incorporating your own personal touches.

Keep these factors in mind when deciding on a family room design, and continue reading below. Here are several interior design ideas for your family room!

  1. Earthy Feel

Green is in. Earthy tones and green life is a great way to decorate your family room if you’d like to join the green movement. Bring in as much natural light into your family room as possible.

Then, choose some indoor plants to hang from the walls or to place in a corner or on a counter. There are several indoor plants that require little maintenance and act as an air purifier. Aloe plants are  just one example.

You can then consider placing a solid white game table in the room surrounded by a couch and chair that have shades of blue or green in them.

These colors all add to the earthy feel. A calming and laidback shade of green on the walls is a great way to tie the design together.

  1. Vintage Expression

Do vintage items ever go out of style? The answer is: no. If you’re into all things vintage, then you’ll love this next family room design.

Place as much vintage expression into your family room as you see fit. Consider using local building materials and anything from the home that you can salvage (if doing a complete demo and remodel). A stone fireplace and exposed wooden beams are both wonderful ideas.

Wood floors are a great option for a vintage family room. You make things a bit cozier by placing a small rug on the floor and using antique furniture with stripe-colored upholstery.

Vintage designs can be difficult at times, so we suggest getting in contact with an interior designer to help you create the ideal vintage family room.

  1. Vibrant Hues

If you love vibrant colors, then a family room filled with vibrant hues might be your choice of design. For this design, start off by using lush green house plants to place on your window sills. Place taller houseplants off to the side of the couch or in a corner of the room.

Be sure to hang fun art pieces on the wall and mirrors with vibrant patterns or designs around the edge of them.

You can choose to go with a more neutral color for the coffee or game table and couch. This way, you can brighten things up by placing colorful flowers in a vase on the table.

You can also splash the couch with color as well by using color throw pillows.

  1. Snack Nooks

A great addition to any family room is a snack nook. This takes a basic family room and transforms it into a multi-functioning room. Create a snack nook by placing a small table with seating around it for light snacking.

Think about how many times you or your children decide to grab something out of the fridge before getting comfortable in the family room.

You now have a designated space for casual dining and snacks inside your family room. You’ll no longer need to worry about a mess happening on your couch.

For seating purposes, consider installing a built-in bench around your snack table. This makes things feel more comfortable and family-style.

  1. Intimate Settings

To make your family room feel a bit more intimate, paint the walls a darker shade. This can be a dark shade of just about any color you desire. The deep grey color is an excellent choice and is paired well with bright furniture pieces.

Consider placing furniture pieces that display bright colors like green or orange to offset the dark walls. You can also place a colorful rug on the floor to tie everything together.

  1. Reading Nooks

A reading nook is another wonderful idea for your family room. Keep in mind, however, that if no one in the family is a reader, then you might not get the most out of your family room by adding this into it.

It all depends on what you like and what you enjoy doing. If you do have readers in the family, then a reading nook is a must-have. A reading nook is a great way to make the family room feel comfortable for just about anyone.

Imagine having a place where you can snuggle up with your favorite book and read in peace. Be sure to use a modern light fixture above the reading nook to provide yourself with proper lighting.
