  1. Get Rid of Clutter

The first thing that should be on your planning-a-move checklist is eliminating your clutter. It may sound like a trivial chore at first, but you’d be surprised by how much junk you have laying around that will make packing harder.

As you go through all of your belongings, you should create three different piles: things you’ll keep, things you can throw out or donate, and undecided.

If you haven’t found a good use for any of the items in your undecided pile by the time you’re done packing, you can feel less guilty getting rid of it.

  1. Make a Packing Schedule

Even if you’re planning a local move that allows you to have a more laid-back moving day, it’s still helpful to create a packing schedule.

Depending on how large your house is, packing everything could take weeks. If you want to avoid stress, make sure you start as soon as possible so you don’t have to do any packing marathons right before you move.

  1. Label Everything as You Go

It may be tempting to chuck everything you own into random boxes just to get the work done, but you’ll be making more stress for yourself once it’s time to unpack.

It’s worth taking the time to set up boxes that are dedicated to specific areas of each room. For example, instead of having several random bedroom boxes, you can have a box for your desk, closet, dresser, and more.

  1. Give Yourself Rewards to Stay Motivated

One of the hardest parts of moving is finding the willpower to stay on task. Even if you create a manageable packing schedule, it’s easy to ignore one day then another and suffer from a snowball effect.

To avoid this, pencil in time to do things you enjoy after you complete your daily chores, such as ordering your favorite takeout, watching a funny show, scrolling through social media, and even calling a loved one.

  1. Contact a Professional Moving Company

Choosing a moving company to help with the heavy lifting can make all the difference on your moving day.

Whether you need home or apartment movers, experienced professionals can handle all of your belongings with care and even place each box in the correct spot to make unpacking a breeze.

Now You Know How to Plan a Move

If you follow these 5 tips on how to plan a move, you can get excited instead of worrying about this big transition in your life. Moving will never be completely stress-free, but this guide will make it as easy as possible.
