Owning a home is expensive. If you took out a mortgage to buy yours, you need to worry about that every month. You have property taxes for as long as you own the house.

You have to spend some time and money with keeping your yard, no matter how big or small, in respectable condition. And, you have the general upkeep of the house structure itself.

One way to mitigate those expenses is to try and do as much of the maintenance and upkeep that you can by yourself. However, there are certain times when that simply is not a good idea.

Signs You Need to Call a Professional Plumber ASAP

As there are too many problems that can happen where you want to get a professional involved when regarding your entire home, inside and out, here are three narrowed down examples concerning the plumbing.

Unusually Low Water Pressure

Minor water pressure changes happen from time to time, but as you get to know your home and the area in which you live, you’ll be able to tell what a normal variance is compared to something more significant.

If you feel your water pressure is much lower than what’s normal, a good first step is to check with your neighbors and see if they are experiencing the same problems. If so, it could be a supply problem.

But, if they aren’t, you might want to call a plumber.

Low water pressure can be a sign of a pipe obstruction due to a slow but ever growing buildup of sedentary minerals from hard water. Minerals like calcium can be left in the pipes as water flows through them. Over time they harden and start to choke your water flow.

Trying to DIY this fix can leave you with damaged pipes and a much more expensive fix than if you just called a professional from the beginning. A professional will also be able to pinpoint the problem so you’ll know exactly what’s wrong instead of relying on guesses.

Chronically Clogged Drains

This plumbing problem is actually not completely separate from the one above. If you notice a drain in your shower appearing slow or your toilet is not flushing properly, you might have a minor clog. It’s something you can try to fix with any standard plunger.

But, if that doesn’t work and you start to notice worsening drainage problems that just won’t go away, there’s a chance something more serious is lurking beneath. You will want to enlist the help of a professional in situations like this.

Chronically clogged drains are often the result of pipe obstruction. While you might be able to fix minor ones, more serious problems like mineral deposits in your pipes are going to require a bit of help to isolate and fix correctly.

Visible Water Where it Shouldn’t Be

One of the most telling signs that you need to call plumbing instead of trying to fix your plumbing problem on your own is when you can see water in your house where it should not be. For example, water pooling on the corner or seeping through drywall is a major red flag.

Of any potential plumbing problem that requires the help of a professional, this is the most serious one. You will waste valuable time trying to diagnose and then maybe attempt to fix what you find on your own.

Water damage is very serious and can cause untold destruction in a very short amount of time. Even something as simple as absentmindedly leaving a bathtub tap running causing an overflow can lead to a collapsing floor much faster than you think

If you see water in your house where it should not be, get on the phone and call a professional plumbing service ASAP .

In Conclusion

Managing the upkeep and maintenance of your home on your own is a great way to save a few dollars. Professional services like electricians and plumbers are not cheap after all. But, there are times when you should get a professional over and do so quickly.

By trying to cut corners all the time, you may actually end up costing yourself more money than if you just called the professional right from the start. Manage the small tasks by yourself, but leave the more serious ones to the professionals.
