In 2022, many homes are looking better than ever thanks to dwellers spending more time in them and displaying their handiwork for the world to see via the internet.

Social media has made it exceedingly easy to create and showcase the best in home design. Everyone is watching as the trends continue to roll in – but which trends are the cutting edge? Read on to find out.

Heaven on Earth

A major theme in current home interiors is the creation of a truly tranquil environment in tone with our planet. More and more we find that individuals are seeking to forgo sterile and industrial approaches in favor of themes synonymous with nature. This is displayed through subtle environmentalism and the upswing of biophilic preferences.

Making Waves

Softly shaped waves will continue to show up in everything from furniture to custom renovation architecture. These rounded styles are reminiscent of peaceful and playful examples in nature: smoothly eroded rock formations, the gentle shape of ponds, and even the umbrellas of mushrooms and treetops.

Arched windows and doors, curvilinear backsplashes, and waterfall corners are all prominent accents when it comes to modern living.

Green Delights

Arguably the biggest trend in modern design, phytophilous interiors have never been more popular.

The collection and maintenance of indoor plants have become a sign of affluence in many ways and provide residents with peaceful and calming sensory details.

Indoor plants are not only a beautiful way to decorate your interior but they also provide many health benefits, from mental and emotional to physical.

Repurposed With Style

More and more we see that reclaimed materials are overshadowing other elements in home design, regardless of available assets. Choosing to utilize and repurpose materials with a previous life has become synonymous with astute and conscious creativity. The more unique and high-quality the reclaimed material, the greater the feature.

Function Meets Peace

We also see that there is a massive desire to cut out unnecessary space-fillers and invest in multifaceted designs that meet several needs instead of one. The theme continues to be one of minimizing stress while maximizing efficiency and resources.

Multifunctional Spaces

As society and modern workflows evolve, we are finding that multifunctional furniture and interior design elements continue to be key players.

Furniture items that can be converted for discreet storage or complimentary decor are highly popular. With more professionals opting to work in remote or hybrid spaces, the necessity for multifunctional design continues to increase.

Rooms that can be easily converted to suit various scenarios are at the top of the list for many homeowners. Rather than vague open concepts, clear and directional ideas for making the most out of limited space are growing in popularity.

Complementary Curves

Once again, we are drawn back to the rotund and curvacious design elements that are sweeping interior decorations – but this time with a focus on furniture.

Rounded sectionals, obtuse armoires, and curvaceous bedroom outfits seem to be the height of comfort in 2022. Smoothly bending chairs, tables, accents, and accessories are increasingly beloved for the calming and comforting effects they provide.

Simple Colours

Rather than garish or elaborate color schemes that tend to overwhelm, interior designers are opting for simple and bright colors with neutral tones to compliment effortless design elements.

Cream and white, beige and tan, forest green and pastel brown, and quiet rustic oranges are all vogue colors in 2022. Again, the themes appear to be in line with a desire to simplify and reconnect with natural elements.

Moving Away from Complexity

Perhaps a sign of the times, the overarching constructs of the most influential interior design trends in 2022 seem to revolve around a desire to cut out complexity. Although kitsch and maximalism have their place in certain subcultures, it is more likely subversive backlash to the oversaturated consumerism of the modern world.

With all of the stress and overwhelming access to information, people are seeking to appreciate the peace they can find at home. Folks wanting to accentuate their ability to come home and relax is the trend here.

From collecting houseplants rather than accessories to leaning toward natural elements such as wood and water, it is becoming clear that the soothing effects of nature are hotly desired interior elements.

Although large-scale renovations tend to feature these trends, it’s also easy to create the same effects at home in less significant ways.

Subtlety is the popular art when it comes to modern interior design, and overtly brash and conceited motifs have been reserved for select aesthetics. To find yourself at the height of interior design trends in 2022, one must simply act natural.
