  1. Don’t Choose Your Paints First

If you’ve moved into a new house and are starting from the ground up, it’s important that you don’t choose your paints before buying furniture. Trust us when we say, it’s much easier to match your paints to furniture than it is to match furniture to paints.

Besides, if you choose your décor first, you can draw a little inspiration from it to choose a paint color for the room.

  1. Look at the Other Décor in the Room

Do you have colorful patterned rugs and upholstery in your living room? Grab the main color from the pattern and use it as your wall color.

If you don’t want to go too bold in your color choices, try to match your paint to the neutral colors in the pattern.

  1. Find Inspiration

Before picking paint colors, it’s a good idea to gather a little inspiration. Pinterest is a great source for this.

You can make a board for all the rooms you’re going to be painting and pin a few rooms that catch your eye.

  1. Play Around with Neutrals

When someone walks into your home, what do you want their eyes to be drawn to? Your walls or the expensive vase you have on display. The answer is probably the vase in this case.

If you go with a bold wall color it will detract attention from all your décor efforts. If you’re not worried about that then go for it. Go bold.

If you have bright walls, however, you’re going to want to use neutral-colored furniture. If you have both, it might be a little overwhelming to the eyes.

  1. Take Advantage of Testers

You never know how a color is truly going to look until it’s on your wall. That’s why it’s important to take advantage of testers.

Paint a small section of your wall and keep an eye on it for a few days. Pay attention to how it looks when the light hits it.

How to Pick Paint Colors to Match Your Home

Are you ready to change up the paint colors on your wall? No matter how many times you do it, it’s hard to get used to all the options available to you.

We hope you’re able to use this guide on how to pick paint colors to find a shade that will match your home.

Now that you’ve painted, it’s time to renovate the rest of your house. Check out our blog daily for all the latest design tips.
